How Melanie Became a Writer for Green Businesses

Working as an exploration geologist I had the opportunity to go to seldom visited places around the globe that very few people ever get to experience. Over the years working in geology gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation, and connection to Gaia, our Earth. My transition from being an exploration geologist to a freelance writer all began when I attended a talk on Buddhist Economics at the John Molson School of Business in Montreal. Buddhist Economics follows the economic golden rule of sustainability-Leave the world a better place than you found it, take no more than what is necessary, try not to harm life or the environment, and make amends if you do. Immediately I knew, without a doubt, that a new vocation was strongly calling me. In 2014, I launched my writing business to further my commitments to the environment and sustainability with a focus on green innovative products, services, and organizations.

Personal Stuff

Born and raised in British Columbia, my roots now are in Montréal, Québec-so much so that even my mother has moved here. It is my soul city. I am the owner of a very high maintenance cat who she gets a daily 15-minute massage, and she won’t have it any other way! My husband and I are EV owners, along with an electric snow shovel and electric lawnmower. I diligently and relentlessly recycle, reuse, and compost. All efforts are made to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible, which includes moving towards plant based eating, reducing air travel to love miles and work miles only, living close to a metro for easy use of public transport, eating local, and growing organic food. They say it takes a village to raise a child. I am part of a group of friends who rotate to help a single mom to take care of her son, a little boy named Harvey. A dabbler in creative fiction writing, and oral storytelling, I am a member of the Montreal Story Tellers Guild. I also ghost write books and have spent years collecting various certificates and undergraduate degrees.
