How Melanie became a marketing writer

Working as an exploration geologist I had the opportunity to go seldom visited places around the globe that very few people ever get to experience.

Over the years working in geology gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation, and connection to Gaia, our Earth. My transition from being an exploration geologist to a freelance writer all began when I attended a talk on Buddhist Economics at the John Molson School of Business in Montreal.

Buddhist Economics follows the economic golden rule of sustainability—leave the world a better place than you found it, take no more than what is necessary, try not to harm life or the environment, and make amends if you do.

Immediately I knew, without a doubt, that a new vocation was strongly calling me. In 2014, I launched my writing business to further my commitments to the health of our planet and human beings.

If you are looking to create marketing content that will create trust and connection, build awareness of your expertise, target various audiences, and promote thought-leadership, I am the writer for you.

Personal stuff

Born and raised in British Columbia, my roots are now in Montréal, Québec—so much so that even my mother has moved here. It is my soul city.

I am the owner of a very high maintenance cat who she gets a daily 15-minute massage, and she won’t have it any other way!

My husband and I are EV owners, along with an electric shovel and electric lawnmower.

I diligently and relentlessly recycle, reuse, and compost. All efforts are made to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible, which includes moving towards plant based eating, reducing air travel to love miles and work miles only, living close to a metro for easy use of public transport, eating local, and growing organic food.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. I am part of a group of friends who rotate to help a single mom to take care of her son, a little boy named Harvey.

A dabbler in creative fiction writing, and oral storytelling, I am a member of the Montreal Story Tellers Guild. I also ghost write books and have spent years collecting various certificates and undergraduate degrees.

How I work

What you can count on me for

Clear, concise, and engaging content creation that builds trust and connection.

Strong research and interview skills which creates and cultivates thought-leadership.

Delivering on time, every time.

Using narrative that connects and reveals the essence of your brand.

A collaborative approach.

“The outcome of our collaborative efforts with her gave us an improved social media presence with fresh material.”

“We had several social media accounts, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. But we were barely posting anything. There was this feeling of frustration, even though it seemed like it was an easy thing to do. The social media posting always fell to the bottom of the list of all the things I had to deal with. Bringing Melanie on board to help with the social media posting was a good decision for us. She came up with many new and interesting ideas for social media posts targeting our audience. We appreciated Melanie’s organization and clear communication of ideas in the content calendar; having all information in one place was also good. The outcome of our collaborative efforts with her gave us an improved social media presence with fresh material. I recommend Melanie and plan to work with her again on future projects.”
